Sticker bombed walls. Graffiti strewn corridors. Live drum n' bass. Cheap beer. A waterside view and inside smoking permitted. I was shown this spot by a local on arrival to Amsterdam a year ago; and it's since been a venue I'm always more than happy to visit in my downtime and when showing friends around.
Kick back and sample a Hertog Jan (cheap bottled local beer ) at €2,30 per pop I'm yet to see a beer cheaper in the city center. €3.80 for a pint of Jupiler is not too bad either. They also do pretty wicked milkshakes and coffee. Remember to bring cash!
Now you cant buy weed here, this is a bar not a coffeeshop BUT you can smoke here. So kick back in one of the cozy leather couches beside the window and toke up with table service happy to bring you out the next round of drinks.
Friday and Saturday nights are my favorite as they get a DJ in to crank a night-long heavy drum and bass set. I've never been let down by these and it's nice to see them still using vinyl from time to time.
Although really central, this joint is fairly conspicuous so it's never too busy, the crowd is low key, the music cranks hard and the beer runs cold.
Look Out For This
So if you're looking for something a little different, drum n' bass, cheap beer, a waterside view and inside smoking; check out Hill St Booze next time you're in the area.
I'd like to find more places like this so let me know in the comments below if you've found any that're worth checking out.
