Amsterdam Best Places To Drink Coffee: 7 Picks

There are a handful of places in Amsterdam where I look forward to nestling myself among the aroma of freshly ground beans and chatter of patrons; of which I've strung together so that you, too can enjoy them. What you'll find below are my personal picks of where I choose to kick back and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge in the sweet, dark nectar we call coffee.
I've visited each of these at least once, and from all have ordered only their standard, unmolested black coffee. I've placed them in no particular order.

1. Lot Sixty One

Picture
Lot Sixty One knows what it takes to roast coffee that is not just great, but truly GOOD - by tracing the origins of their coffee right back to the farms where they are grown.  The baristas then set to work putting the new roasts through their paces and making sure that the way beans are roasted do them justice in bringing out their specific regional flavors. Also, if you're serious about getting your morning brew in to order, they have all the latest and greatest  brew gear to get you making coffee like a pro.

2. La Boutique

Picture
If you're in the mood for an Italian inspired blend, look no further. The owner comes from Italy and brings with him all the tricks of the trade. The staff are friendly and the decor is clean and charming. La Boutique is located conveniently De Pijp, a little off the beaten track but also one of Amsterdam's most vibrant districts. There is also a beautiful, friendly cat here that's up for a snuggle while you kick back.

3. Coffee Bru

Picture
Some say that Coffee Bru makes the best coffee on the eastside, if not in all of Amsterdam. In fact, they recently won an award for it! Stop into this lovely shop for an expertly brewed coffee as well as sandwiches and pastries. Coffee Bru also serves and sells their own brand of tea called Monkey Chief. Sit in the bright back room by the wall of green plants, or grab a seat outside if the weather is nice.

4. Coffee Concepts

Picture
These guys have curated a cosy, open-space cafe, complete with snug sofas, unique art pieces, and the magical scent of freshly brewed coffee. A short walk from Museumplein, this place is close enough to warrant a stroll, whilst being far enough away to mean it's super chill. This place is actually a small creative communications agency, which you can see at work through the glass while you sip on your coffee. Their sandwich Bar also prepares fresh, wholesome snacks and meals which are well worth a try.

5. Bakers & Roasters

Picture
Bakers and roasters is a New Zealand style café served with a heavy dose of Brazil. All coffee's are served as doubles, so for the coffee fiend this is a great place to get your fix. The beans are roasted and delivered fresh weekly by New Zealand style roastery, Ozone, based in London. As an added bonus, this joint has fresh, in-home baked goods to pick from the cake cabinet and also happens to have one of Amsterdam's best brunch menus.

6. Caffenation

Some say that for the coffee fanatic, Caffenation is as good as it gets. They have great coffee (always served hot and strong) and a super chill ambiance which suits the solo laptop goer, the couple and the group out for lunch. This is a little independent coffee house with a great host who lives coffee. Ask Bert to prefer your coffee as a filter to take from it the full flavor and aroma.

7. Gary's Deli

Picture
Don't let the name fool you, its not just a deli. Gary's does it well, you can come here  to work in a happening-but-not-too-loud environment that is sunny, with strong internet, strong coffee, and good food. The atmosphere is very relaxed, even when the place is crowded and the service is welcoming and attentive. This retro cafe also has outside seating, perfect for if you're fortunate enough to experience a sunny day here; and two floors of cozy seating indoors.
